So…Where’ve I been?

April 22, 2006

Out. Livin'. Breathin'. Workin.

And reading. I should write a review or two in the days to come….

I keep changing my mind about going abroad. My mind revolves on the matter almost constantly. I want to be where God wants me to be. My interest in doing all for SELF is waning. I can contribute to God’s greater good from where I am. I mean, I don’t even know that I want to teach anymore. Not with the way things are going.

I shouldn’t have to go far to be happy.

Shhh!

Don't tell anyone, but, um…

I miss my old blog host.

Inside my own insanity.

April 3, 2006

As a Christian, and a fallible human being, having faith in the absence of any improvement in my circumstances is hard. Sometimes I don't know what on earth I'm doing daring to be optomistic. My world is at a standstill. I am waiting for…Something. SOMETHING to happen to me.

I want to take action to improve my situation. But I have seen signs and felt feelings. Feelings that have led me to believe that if I act now, I would be doing so out of frustration. And really, what good does that do? Who does that benefit? Desperate decisions often lead to disappointing results.

And then I feel ashamed for being anxious. So very, very ashamed. I am selfish.

For I have my health and strength. I have a roof over my head.

Yet I am despised for being myself and for loving the way the Lord created me.

I tend to think that would have been too kind.

Read all about it.

When are children going to be valued in our society? WHEN?

“…U In Bondage”

March 18, 2006

Recently there’s been a bit of a buzz concerning a young lady named Autum Ashante.  Michelle Malkin wrote an excellent column regarding one of her recent appearances.

To a certain extent, I can see what Autum is saying regarding Columbus. I think it would be foolish for anyone to deny the amount of pillaging and suffering that went into the founding of this “civilization” that we call North America. Yet Black Militancy is not something that I cannot get behind.

If people want to be free they need to realize something. Sometimes they are the ones who keep themselves in “bondage”. Hatred does more than waste time. Not only does it give birth to ignorance. It feeds it.

And I know that there are those out there who may disagree with me. People may argue that Autum, her father, and others who think as they do are wonderful. And perfectly educated and intelligent. And that’s fine. Everyone has their own definition of what qualifies as education and intelligence.

But when you waste time resenting people based on their superficial attributes such as their skin color, you miss out on the richness of the life that God has given us to abundantly enjoy.

I couldn’t resist

One of my fondest memories of Toronto involves pigeons. I thought they were the cutest things!! Downtown, they were everywhere. Or at least they seemed to be.

And now, although across the pond, it seems that one of them has his own blog.

Smurf!

March 12, 2006

Over on the Relevant boards, the mods have taken to using the word “smurf” to replace profanities in people’s posts. I’d like to thank Vox for pointing the way to the video.

Beware of Travis Frey

March 1, 2006

A little while ago on the radio, I heard about someone named Travis Frey. Mr. Frey is a man who, among other things, prepared a “Contract of Wifely Expectations” for his spouse. As the DJ went over a few of the details, I remember…I could barely believe my ears. And when I came across the document just now, I could barely believe my eyes.

I found this in my bulletin box on myspace today.

What does Love mean?

A group of professional people posed this question to a group of 4 to 8 year-olds, “What does love mean?” The answers they got were broader and deeper than anyone could have imagined.

See what you think:

“When my grandmother got arthritis, she couldn’t bend over and paint her toenails anymore. So my grandfather does it for her all the time, even when his hands got arthritis too. That’s love.”
Rebecca- age 8

“When someone loves you, the way they say your name is different. You just know that your name is safe in their mouth.”
Billy – age 4

“Love is when a girl puts on perfume and a boy puts on shaving cologne and they go out and smell each other.”
Karl – age 5

“Love is when yo u go out to eat and give somebody most of your French fries without making them give you any of theirs.”
Chrissy -age 6

“Love is what makes you smile when you’re tired.”
Terri – age 4

“Love is when my mommy makes coffee for my daddy and she takes a sip before giving it to him, to make sure the taste is OK.”
Danny – age 7

“Love is when you kiss all the time. Then when you get tired of kissing, you still want to be together and you talk more. My Mommy and Daddy are like that. They look gross when they kiss”
Emily – age 8

“Love is what’s in the room with you at Christmas if you stop opening presents and listen.”
Bobby – age 7 (Wow!)

“If you want to learn to love better, you should start with a friend who you hate,”
Nikka – age 6 (we need a few million more Nikka’s on this planet)

“Love is when you tell a guy you like his shirt, then he wears it everyday.”
Noelle – age 7

“Love is like a little old woman and a little ol d man who are still friends even after they know each other so well.”
Tommy – age 6

“During my piano recital, I was on a stage and I was scared. I looked at all the people watching me and saw my daddy waving and smiling. He was the only one doing that. I wasn’t scared anymore.”
Cindy – age 8

“My mommy loves me more than anybody . You don’t see anyone else kissing me to sleep at night.”
Clare – age 6

“Love is when Mommy gives Daddy the best piece of chicken.”
Elaine-age 5

“Love is when Mommy sees Daddy smelly and sweaty and still says he is handsomer than Robert Redford.”
Chris – age 7

“Love is when your puppy licks your face even after you left him alone all day.”
Mary Ann – age 4

“I know my older sister loves me because she gives me all her old clothes and has to go out and buy new ones.”
Lauren – age 4

“When you love somebody, your eyelashes go up and down and little stars come out of you.” (what an imagination)
Karen – age 7

“Love is when Mommy sees Daddy on the toilet and she doesn’t think it’s gross.”
Mark – age 6

“You really shouldn’t say ‘I love you’ unless you mean it. But if you mean it, you should say it a lot. People forget.”
Jessica – age 8

And the final one — Author and lecturer Leo Buscaglia once talked about a contest he was asked to judge. The purpose of the contest was to find the most caring child.

The winner was a four year old child whose next door neighbour was an elderly gentleman who had recently lost his wife. Upon seeing the man cry, the little boy went into the old gentleman’s yard, climbed onto his lap, and just sat there. When his Mother asked what he had said to the neighbour, the little boy said, “Nothing, I just helped him cry”

When there is nothing left but God, that is when you find out that God is all you need.
