Privacy, schmivacy.

December 28, 2005

And now, in the aftermath of Jane Creba’s death, the debate has turned to whether or not more surveillance cameras ought to be installed.

As I watch the news, every now and then someone mutters about “privacy” as in violating people’s right to privacy. In public places.

“Privacy? HA!” I exclaimed. I was watching with someone who said, “Privacy my foot!”

I, on the other hand, was a little less polite.

In the first place, once you’re out in the open, especially in the downtown of an urban area…I’m sorry. But if you expect anything you do at that point to be considered private, you’re dreaming. And if you’re downtown doing something that you think ought to be kept private…You know what? You shouldn’t be there in the first place. Forget cameras. One way or another, someone WILL see you.

It’s not as though they’re talking about a pervert or peeping tom. They’re talking about security cameras. I haven’t got anything to hide. And if I did have something to hide, I can guarantee I wouldn’t be foolish enough to do it where every Jane and John Doe could get an eyeful.

We’re talking about saving lives and keeping people safe. So long as your intentions are honorable…I say go ahead, tape away.

If love is what God wants for me, then love is what I shall have.

Paging Tom Green

I hear you’ve got a new track out called “Teachers Suck”.

And I want to like it, because I have a sense of humor, and, like you, I’m Canadian.

But.

I’m a teacher.

And I don’t suck. And I didn’t get into this profession because I’m too dense to do anything else.

One day I’m sure that Mr. Green will be asked a question re his intent. Pray, what was in his head when he came up with his current hit?

He may try to tell the audience that it was all tongue in cheek, that anyone who has any kind of sense will know better than to take “Teachers Suck” seriously.

But there are millions of students who are going to take his nonsense at face value. They will feel that they have license to degrade and disrespect their teachers.

I’m sick and tired of these artists thinking they don’t have to make responsible decisions regarding the products of their so-called creative “genius”.

I don’t have anything else to say right now, other than that it’s a damn shame.

Right on time

The Lord is helping me see the beauty in my circumstance.

I’ve only attended my neighborhood church twice. It’s about a five-minute walk from my doorstep. I remember the first time I went. I was happy after I left the service. “Finally,” I thought,”I’m going to connect to a local group of believers.”

I was also a little worried.

I’m willing to bet all my earthly goods that I’m the only single late-twenty-something in the congregation. Or at least, that’s how it felt.

Self-consciousness started to get the best of me.

But whenever The Enemy presents me with a reason to be upset, God sends another thought to ease my mind.

I know that he can, and will, use me for good in any circumstance.

Furthermore, tonight, while surfing the internet, I found this excellent article.

As a single Christian woman in a small-town congregation…I swear it was written just for me. 🙂
